Anastasia Island – The Nation’s Oldest City’s Biggest Surprise

Anastasia Island – have you heard of it? If you’re a St. Augustine native, then you know that this little island offers the best of both worlds. It’s close enough to historic Saint Augustine and the beaches that you can stroll down Saint George Street in the morning and have your toes in the sand by the afternoon. Looking for both the charm of the old world and the sun and surf of North Florida’s beaches? On Anastasia Island, you don’t have to make that choice.

“The Island,” as the locals call it, is located off the northeast Atlantic coast of Florida situated just east of Saint Augustine and just southeast of Matanzas Inlet. This is a little island that packs a big punch. It’s only about 14 miles long and 1 mile wide, which means real estate here is in high demand. Only a handful of lucky ones can call themselves residents of the island.

To the north of the island you’ll find Anastasia State Park where you can hike, kayak or just enjoy the nature and protected green space. Towards the middle of the island you’ll find bustling St. Augustine Beach. With plenty of restaurants and shopping centers, you won’t have to step foot off the island to find everything you need. To the south, you’ll find quiet Crescent Beach – home to dozens of vacation rentals and condominiums but still with plenty of peace and quiet to be found.

Sure, you don’t need to step foot off the island but what if you want to? The ancient city of historic St. Augustine is just across the bridge. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time with a visit to the historic fort and the city’s distillery. A walk down the cobblestone streets and you can take in the sounds of local musicians and the sights of area artists. Visit the city’s dozens of restaurants for authentic Spanish cuisine or fresh-off-the-boat seafood. Get the blood pumping with a nighttime ghost tour or a haunted pub crawl. Pop into a local gallery or any of the area’s charming boutiques to find something special for your new home in Anastasia Island.

A little further north is the buzzing big city of Jacksonville that offers fine dining, plenty of shopping malls, world-renowned golf courses and several multi-national companies with great opportunities for career growth. On Anastasia Island you’re never too far away from everything that Florida living has to offer.

Ann and Jeanie at Welcome Home North Florida can’t wait to help you find your little piece of paradise on the island. They know the island like the back of their hand and can find you your perfect beach bungalow. Who’s ready to call Anastasia Island home?
